Virginia's Lost Covered Railroad Bridges and Historic Railroad Trestles

This website is for the discovering, researching,  and recording of the facts and histories of Virginia's Lost Covered Railroad Bridges and the Historical Railroad Trestles. It is also about the history of these bridges and the signifcance they played in the Civil War and the growth and development they play on Virginia's towns, cities and communities.

The covered railroad bridges and railroad trestle were the main targets of the North during the Civil War. The emphasis of the war was the destruction of railroad traffic by destroing as many bridges as they could. The South defended these bridges with all their might, sometimes succeeding and sometimes not. In any case there were good people who lost their lives, both in the defense of and the destruction of these historic bridges and trestles.
