Buchanan Covered Bridge
This covered railroad bridge was mentioned in a book measuring the rivers water level for the Weather Bureau. On a map of Buchanan, main street is chopped and bypassed in such a way that the street looks re-routed. The name of this street is Bridge Street. The book described the bridge being located at Buchanan Station. There is no other Buchanan Station in Virginia. Buchanan also sits on the river.
There was a Civil War battle fought here for the protection of the bridges there. Buchanan Bridge was spared due to the Confederate defense, The James River Covered Bridge wasn't so lucky. Embers from the James River Bridge set fires in town.
The Route 11 Bridge that exists in Buchanan is setting on the piers of the old covered bridge.
